Hilltoppers Helping HaitiThe yearbook staff, in cooperation with Students for Social Responsibility, is coordinating Marquette's High response to the Haiti disaster – a project we are calling Hilltoppers Helping Haiti.
We kicked off the project by holding a collection at the end of an all school Mass. We will continue to collect money now throughout Lent. There will be a collection basket in Room B-9. We will hold another all-school collection at the Ash Wednesday liturgy. We will update the student body weekly on the total raised.
We are hoping to have a mini Mardi Gras on the Monday or Tuesday before Lent – with Sobelman's burgers, candy, and Hilltoppers Helping Haiti t-shirts for sale. Proceeds of this would also go to Hilltoppers Helping Haiti.
Proceeds from Hilltoppers Helping Haiti will be given to The St. Joseph Home for Boys in care of Hearts with Haiti, 708 McCulloch St. Raleigh, NC 27603. (http://www.heartswithhaiti.org/) This home for orphaned boys was started by Michael Geilenfeld (a relative of a Marquette High family). Two years ago, Mr. Geilenfeld brought a group of boys to MUHS to tell their story and dance for us. Now, their home has been destroyed. .
