Hilltoppers Sign Letters to Play College Football

Six Marquette University High School seniors signed letters today to confirm their plans to play football while attending college in the fall. The signing ceremony included their parents and Coach Dick Basham. Four players signed letters of intent and two signed letters of acceptance as preferred walk-ons. 

  • Michael Trotter, defensive back, signed a letter of intent to attend and play for the University of   Wisconsin – Madison. 2009 Awards: 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team Journal/Sentinel All-Area, Journal/Sentinel All-Area Player of the Year, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) All-Region and All-State, WFCA All-State Player of the Year, 1st Team Associated Press (AP) All-State, and Wisconsin Sports Net Jim Leonhard Award Winner

  • Nicholas Rawson, offensive line, signed a letter of intent to attend and play for the University of South Dakota. 2009 Awards: 1st Team All-Conference, Greater Metro Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year, 1st Team J/S All-Area, WFCA All-Region and All-State, 2nd Team AP All-State

  • Marvin Paine, wide receiver, signed a letter of intent to attend and play for Minnesota State – Mankato. 2009 Award: 1st Team All-Conference

  • Brock LaFace, running back, signed a letter of intent to attend and play for Drake University. 2009 Award: 1st Team All-Conference

  • Marcus Trotter, linebacker, signed a letter of acceptance and is a preferred walk on for the University of Wisconsin – Madison. 2009 Awards: 1st Team All-Conference, Greater Metro Conference Defensive Back of the Year, 1st Team J/S All-Area, 1st Team AP All-State

  • Cameron Botticelli, defensive end, signed a letter of acceptance and is a preferred walk on for the University of Minnesota. 2009 Awards: 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team J/S All-Area, WFCA All-Region and All-State, 1st Team AP All-State, Impact Sports Player of the Game for the State Championship, Time-Warner Player of the Year

During the past four seasons at MUHS, the football team compiled a 40-9 record (8-4, 10-2, 8-3, 14-0). In 2009, the team achieved a perfect 14-0 record, winning the Division 1 State Championship. The team made the playoffs all four years.

In addition to these football players, the following MUHS athletes were recruited and have committed to play in their respective sports at the following universities this fall:

  • Mark Haas, soccer, DePaul University - 1st Team All-conference – Defender, 2nd Team J/S All-Area Team, Honorable Mention All-State Team 
 
  • Peter Heinen, volleyball, Ohio State University - 1st Team All-conference, Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year, 1st Team All-State Team 
 
  • John LoCoco, football, University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minn.) - 2nd Team All-conference – Running Back 

  • Jack McDermott, soccer, Xavier University - 1st Team All-conference – Defender, 1st Team J/S All-Area Team, 1st Team All-State Team, NSCAA All-Region Team (Midwest)
 
  • Mike Roettgers, soccer, St. Louis University - 2nd Team J/S All-Area Team

  • Collin Weyer, baseball, University of Illinois-Chicago - All-conference-Pitcher
