MUHS Announces Historic $100 Million Joint Estate Commitment

Marquette University High School has received a transformative $100 million joint estate commitment from two anonymous alumni donors, bolstering and expanding the accessibility of a Marquette High education for generations to come.

The funds are designated to support scholarships and financial aid. This ensures that the school’s Catholic, Jesuit mission of forming Men for Others remains accessible to families across the Milwaukee region.

This historic estate gift, consisting of two coordinated $50 million bequests from anonymous benefactors, represents the largest known philanthropic commitment to a single high school in Wisconsin history and will be the largest known donation ever made to a Catholic high school in the United States.

"The legacy of these benefactors is not merely in the dollars committed, but in the lives that will be transformed," said Rev. Michael J. Marco, S.J., president of MUHS. "Their generosity ensures that Marquette High’s commitment and Jesuit mission will continue to serve families in the Greater Milwaukee area."

The announcement comes as Father Marco concludes his 10-year tenure as president. His leadership saw the completion of the $40.8 million Companions on the Journey campaign and the school’s recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School.

Currently, the actual cost to educate an MUHS student is approximately $26,375 annually. The school provides an automatic grant of $9,900 per student, bringing tuition to $16,475. Approximately half of the current student body receives additional financial assistance.

The scholarship legacy will address a critical financial aid need, ensuring that economic barriers do not prevent families from accessing Marquette High's transformative Catholic, Jesuit education.

"Every year, I meet families across the Milwaukee area who wonder whether a Marquette High education is within reach," said John Meuler, director of admissions at MUHS. "This allows us to answer that question with even greater confidence, ensuring that a young man's potential, not his family's finances, determines whether he can call himself a Marquette High Hilltopper."

The fund will also provide a robust foundation for Fr. Marco's successor, Father Daniel Kennedy, S.J., who will assume the presidency following the 2025–2026 school year.
