MUHS Golf Ranked No. 1, Named Team of the Week

The Marquette University High School Hilltoppers have been ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin and named Team of the Week after an impressive start to the season. 

After being ranked No. 8 in the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin Division 1 preseason poll, the Hilltoppers took home the top spot at the competitive 41-team Washington County Invitational. Wisconsin Golf gave the Team of the Week designation to Marquette High, which also took the top-ranked spot in the coach's poll

The Hilltoppers were led by Alex Kim, who finished T-6 with a combined score of 149, while junior Tyce Ortega finished T-9 with a combined score of 150. Senior Yusouf Gladney contributed an 82 on Friday, and junior Dermot More-O'Ferrall stepped in on Saturday, shooting a 76.

The Hilltoppers' impressive performance didn't stop there. Their varsity reserves also made a strong showing at the Monona Grove Invitational, finishing seventh with a 307. Juniors Creede Neuberger (73), Jack Mineau (76), and Augie Wabiszewski (78) led the charge.

Team Highlights:

  • Won the 41-team Washington County Invitational

  • Finished 10 strokes ahead of second-place Germantown

  • Showcased depth with six golfers contributing to the win

  • Varsity reserves placed seventh at the Monona Grove Invitational

Individual Highlights:

  • Alex Kim: T-6 finish with a combined score of 149 (79WC-70H)

  • Tyce Ortega: T-9 finish with a combined score of 150 (76WC-74H)

  • Creede Neuberger: Led varsity reserves with a score of 73 at the Monona Grove Invitational

  • Michael Broeker recently committed to playing golf at Siena College in New York
