MUHS Science Olympiad Places 10th in the Nation

After earning the team's fourth consecutive state championship this spring, Marquette University High School Science Olympiad placed 10th in the nation at the 2024 National Science Olympiad Tournament at Michigan State University.

Individually, nine Marquette High students placed in the top six of their respective events. Congratulations to Jacob Wood ‘24 and Luke Josetti ‘25 for placing 3rd in Air Trajectory; Jacob Wood ‘24 and Nathan Stuart ‘24 for placing 2nd in Tower; William Peelen ‘26 and Arjun Patel ‘26 for placing 3rd in Disease Detectives; Cameron Pajot ‘24 and Mitchell Henry ‘25 for placing 2nd in Forensics; and Ronak Patel ‘24 and Trevor Waltersdorf ‘25 for placing 6th place in Detector Building.

Founded at MUHS in 2017, the team is coached by science teacher Nicole Williams with assistant coaches Jobe Youssi, Joey Yamat ‘19, John Baylon ‘19 and Jim Clark. The high-level national success is in addition to this year’s state championship win, placing first overall at both the Northwestern Invitation, Palatine Invitational, Belleville Invitational and multiple other wins across the state.

Science Olympiad gives its members the opportunity to explore and study everything from electrical currents, protein structures, ideal plant conditions, titrations or dilutions, and much more. Over two days at the national competition, students competed in events such as Engineering CAD, Experimental Design, Astronomy, and Disease Detectives.

The MUHS Science Olympiad team helps expand upon students’ science education, which includes course options such as AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, Environmental Science and many more.

MUHS Science Olympiad further prepares students in a variety of STEM-related fields and makes them an excellent candidate for selective colleges and programs. Students who have participated in Science Olympiad have gone on to attend institutions such as UW-Madison, Notre Dame, Caltech, University of Chicago, Cornell, West Point, Annapolis, MIT, Northwestern and Yale.
