Summer Reading Assignment

In the interest of building community among our incoming freshmen and having a common literary experience upon which to build early lessons, the English Department has chosen to assign the Class of 2023 a book about friendship, death, love, faith, and ultimately, hope. The Last Summer of the Death Warriors, by Francisco Stork, follows two teenage boys as they develop an uncommon bond. Students should secure a copy of The Last Summer of the Death Warrior. from the public library, local bookseller, or through Amazon. Freshmen should be sure to finish reading the novel prior to the first day of school on Aug. 21. They can expect to be assessed on this reading in English class within the first few days of school.

School Supply Suggestions for New Students

Marquette High does not provide a school supply list prior to the start of school. Individual teachers will let students know at orientation or on the first day of classes what supplies are required or recommended for their courses. Parents who want to get a jump-start on getting school supplies for their sons can use the following general list:

Loose leaf paper, printer paper, spiral notebooks, file folders, three-ring binders, pens, pencils, a sturdy backpack, a pencil case, a flash drive and a calculator* (TI-84 for all courses except Calculus; TI-89 for AB and BC Calculus).

All textbooks should be purchased prior to the start of school. Information about purchasing books and the 2019-20 book list can be found on the website: Bookstore

*Calculator Information: For all courses except calculus, students need a TI-84 calculator (TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver, or the color version are all acceptable) For AB and BC Calculus, students need a TI-89 or Ti-89 Titanium calculator.
