Admissions Process FAQ

There are two opportunities to see the school in person:

1) Campus Visit Days for Students
Marquette University High School offers shadow days in the fall (for 8th graders) and spring (for 7th graders). Online registration is available under Campus Visit Program.

2) Private Family Tour
If you would like to schedule a private family tour, contact us at admissions@muhs.edu.

Students need to submit a completed application and $35 non-refundable application fee. Required materials include 6th-8th grade report cards and standardized test scores, a math teacher recommendation, an English teacher recommendation, student essay, and the High School Placement Test entrance exam.

Yes, all young men interested in applying to Marquette University High School are required to take the HSPT (High School Placement Test) entrance exam. You can register for the entrance exam after submitting the admissions application, as part of your checklist items. 

This year, the HSPT takes place at MUHS on Nov. 8th and Nov. 9th, 2024. 

Preparation for the Exam:

• Students should get a good night's sleep.
• On the day of the exam, students should eat a good breakfast.
• Students will be provided with one snack but will not otherwise be permitted to have food.
• Calculators are not allowed.
• Cell phones must be turned off during the exam.
• There are no study materials required for this exam.

The HSPT entrance exam is a timed test of cognitive abilities as well as basic skills. The exam includes evaluation of the following:

• Reading skills
• Verbal skills
• Quantitative skills
• Mathematics skills
• Cognitive skills
• Language skills

MUHS seeks and welcomes young men of all races, religions and ethnic origins; this reaffirms the strength of the Jesuit educational tradition. MUHS looks for a broad range of student interests and talents as well as academic aptitude and achievement.

Admission to MUHS is determined by a student’s score on the entrance exam; 6th, 7th and 8th grade report cards; previous standardized testing; and recommendations provided by middle school teachers. Students may also be asked to participate in an interview.

Admissions decision letters are mailed home the the week of Christmas.

Financial aid decisions are emailed in mid-January.

Placement exams for advanced math courses and advanced World Language courses (Spanish, German and Latin) are held in early spring.

Tuition for the 2024-25 school year is $16,150. An average book bill ranges from $400 to $500. MUHS hosts a used book sale annually in July where students can get books at a discounted rate, as well as allow students to sell books back at the end of each school year.

Students are encouraged to experience another important aspect of student life through involvement in one of the many student clubs and organizations, fine arts programs, including music, drama and visual arts, retreats, community service and campus ministry programs.

The MUHS athletic program is one of the most successful in the state, not only in terms of accomplishments but – and more importantly – in participation. Annually, 60 percent of MUHS students participate in a sport. This level of participation emphasizes our commitment to providing ample opportunities for student participation. While the MUHS sports program is competitive, it is also the school’s philosophy to include as many students as is reasonably possible. Therefore, there is at least one no-cut varsity sport in every season and there are two freshman teams in multiple sports. There also are club sports and intramural teams available to students based on their interest.

The mission of the MUHS Parent Network is to be a vehicle of communication that provides support for parents through education and networking. The Parent Partnership is a program where parents are encouraged to financially support the school by helping make up the difference between tuition and the actual cost of educating an MUHS student.
