Hockey coach

Former pro hockey player Anders Bjork has been named the new head varsity hockey coach at Marquette University High School, bringing high-level experience to the Hilltopper program.

Bjork brings a professional hockey pedigree to the Hilltoppers program. After attending MUHS as a freshman, he went on to star at the University of Notre Dame, earn NCAA All-American honors, and play six seasons in the NHL, including multiple years with the Boston Bruins. He also represented the United States at multiple IIHF World Championships and won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championship.

At Notre Dame, he was a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award and the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, and was recognized with the Compton Family Leadership in Service Award, honors that reflect the same values MUHS works to instill in every student.

Bjork, a Mequon native, has already been involved in the Hilltoppers program. This past season he served as a volunteer skills coach with the MUHS Varsity Hockey Team and co-founded 1848 Hockey Collective, a premier training organization in the Milwaukee area.

"I believe in building a foundation of discipline, accountability, and communication, while fostering an environment where players feel both supported and challenged to grow," Bjork said. "These principles align directly with the Catholic mission of Marquette High and its goal of developing the whole person: student, athlete, and community member."

He completed his BBA in Marketing from Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business in 2025, finishing his degree while playing professional hockey.

Locker Room

New Locker Room, named for Coach Jim Kearney

Alongside the coaching announcement, construction of a new dedicated hockey locker room is underway.

Jim Kearney

The Jim Kearney Locker Room will be custom-built and exclusive to MUHS. Designed to meet the real, day-to-day needs of the program, the facility will feature custom wood lockers with integrated ventilation systems at each stall, modern AV and film review equipment, and a security system, giving student-athletes a professional-grade home base to prepare, review, and compete.

By keeping equipment on-site, dry, and game-ready, the locker room eliminates the daily burden of transporting gear between school, the rink, and home — helping players stay focused in the classroom and ready to perform on the ice.

The new locker room is expected to be completed in time for the 2026–2027 varsity hockey season.
