400 meters at the state track meet

Marquette University High School Track & Field capped the season with a top-10 team finish at the WIAA State Championships, highlighted by two new school records and a state record. 

Gianni Quintero swept the 400, 800 and 1600 races while setting a new state record in the 1600, after breaking the 800-meter record last year. He also added a silver medal in the shot put with a new school record.

Friday’s prelim saw the 4x400 relay team of Ivan Hooshmand, JJ Allen, Jackson Myers and Peyton Roby-Brown blaze a school-record 3:20.15. They returned in the finals to claim a podium third place in 3:20.45.

Senior Matthew Griffith scored third place in the discus with 186 feet 11 inches, and added a seventh-place finish in the shot put at 54-10½. He finished his Hilltopper career with three state medals and a school record in the discus.

Jackson Myers closed a breakout junior year with 5th in the 400 (48.94), and this season has the second-fastest open-400 ever run by a Hilltopper.

Junior Brendan Reardon stormed to 7th in the 3200 (9:12.30), lowering his own school record for the second time this spring.

The 4×800 relay team of Eli North, Ezra Sanchez, Jack Kwiat and Charlie Cary claimed 6th in 7:54.68, the third-fastest time in school history. 

Junior Shawn Parish placed 9th in the 100 finals (10.97) after breaking the school record earlier this season. 

On the season, the track team took home the Greater Metro Conference title for the first time since 2007 and set multiple records in the 4x100 relay
