Hilltopper Basketball
The Marquette University High School basketball team took home the Wisconsin Division 1 state championship on Saturday, March 16, with an 84-62 victory over Arrowhead.
The team, coached by Casey Kowalewski '98, finished with a record of 26-4. This marks the basketball team's first WIAA championship since previously competing in the WISAA league and winning a state championship in 1999.
The Hilltoppers also took home several Greater Metro Conference Honors this season: Jeremiah Johnson and Ryan Meehan (Honorable Mention), Cade Kohnen (2nd Team), Nolan Minessale and T.J. Adams (1st Team). Minessale and Coach Kowalewski repeated as GMC Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.
This victory also highlights a successful year for all Marquette High athletics. The Hilltoppers completed the rare feat of winning a football championship followed by a basketball championship. All four fall sports teams at Marquette High including football, volleyball, soccer and cross country finished in the top four in the state, replicating a feat last achieved in 2009.
