NOVEMBER 19, 2020 HILLTOPPER PARENT WEEKLY Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thanksgiving is a time to remember the many blessings in our lives. I just want to take this opportunity to express gratitude for a few of the blessings of Marquette High. We are thankful for our students who come to school ready to learn, remain open to growth, and have shown amazing cooperation in our hybrid schedule. We are grateful for MUHS parents for the support and partnership they have shown. We are grateful for our faculty and staff who demonstrate care for students and animate the mission of MUHS through their work. We are grateful for the many volunteers and benefactors who enthusiastically serve and contribute to our school.
All-School Holiday Toy Drive Now thru Dec. 8 All students, families and employees are invited to participate in this year's all-school Holiday Toy Drive to benefit more than 150 families through the Capuchin Community Services/House of Peace. While this Marquette High holiday tradition will look different this year due to COVID restrictions, it provides an opportunity to come together as a community to be men and women for and with others.
This year we are collecting toys and gift cards ONLY, focusing on children ages 12 and up. This age group is often overlooked so our donations will help ensure that there are plenty of gifts available for this age category. Please note the changes to the collection process this year. If you have any questions, email Key Club Advisor Mrs. Annette Cleary at clearya@muhs.edu.

Here are suggestions on how you can help prepare your son to complete the semester and final exams successfully:
Transcript Request Time for January College Deadlines Now is the time for seniors to see Ms. Sahagún (in person OR virtually) to request a MUHS transcript be sent to any colleges with January application deadlines. College Counseling will be submitting credentials to meet early January college app deadlines prior to final exam week in order for materials to arrive by deadlines. (Please note, MUHS College Counseling is closed over the Semester/Christmas Break.) No appointment is needed for seniors to see Ms. Sahagún in school. She can also meet virtually with a student from home (students can send her an email and she can share/open her virtual office hours link with him). A student does not need to have submitted his application(s) before meeting with Ms. Sahagún. Seniors have been receiving this message as well in daily announcements, weekly Student Bulletins and direct emails from College Counseling. Please help us by encouraging your son to see Ms. Sahagún soon! Resources Available from Junior College Information Night For junior parents, if you missed our Nov. 11 Junior College Information Night program webinar, please refer to the MUHS email sent Monday, Nov. 16, sharing a link to the program recording and resources. The Gift of Gratitude The Student and Family Assistance Program (SFAP) shared this article and short video about gratitude. The Thanksgiving holiday is often a reminder to practice gratitude and appreciation. However, in the midst of these uncertain times, we are hearing more and more about the positive impact practicing gratitude has on our overall well-being and its effects on rewiring the brain's neural pathways for happiness and decreasing negative or anxious thoughts. Together We Can: Keep Life in Balance during a Pandemic Clinicians from North Shore Center LLC are providing parent support groups Tuesdays in December from noon to 1 p.m. Topic examples include facilitating socialization during the pandemic, activating well being, understanding your teen's emotions, and supporting your child with ADHD in a virtual learning setting.
