Klestinski Named Head Varsity Football Coach Congratulations to Keith Klestinski, who has been named MUHS head varsity football coach. Klestinski served as the interim head varsity football coach for the last year. Prior to that, he served as defensive coordinator for the team, and was named the Greater Metro Conference Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016. In addition, he served as head junior varsity football coach from 2009-2013. He was the head track and field coach for 18 years, and under his leadership the program won state championships in 1999 and 2000. Away from the field, Klestinski serves as a teacher in the MUHS science department. He began his MUHS career as director of admissions in 1989. Read More Welcome Fr. Mark Carr, S.J. will join the academic administrative team this term as academic assistant principal during Ms. Maloney's maternity leave. Fr. Carr returns to MUHS after serving as an MUHS faculty member and administrator. Previously, Fr. Carr served as principal of Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio. Welcome back Fr. Carr! Respect Life Annual Day of Prayer Jan. 22 Hilltoppers Defending Life promotes awareness of life issues such as abortion and social injustice with the goal to build a culture that cherishes the dignity of every human person. The Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children is observed annually by the Catholic Church on Jan. 22. MUHS will recognize this day during morning prayer and afternoon examen. In addition, MUHS will participate in the 9 Days for Life Novena offered annually by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops. While those who are present in school will have opportunities to participate communally, families are invited to pray the 9 Days for Life Novena as well. MUHS March for Life 2021 This year Hilltoppers Defending Life will be Marching for Life in Milwaukee, on Friday, Jan. 29, the same day as the March for Life in DC. The tentative itinerary includes morning Mass, walking to and praying at two Milwaukee abortion clinics, virtually viewing parts of the DC event and Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. Please mark this day to pray for the students and adults involved and to pray for unity in respect for all human life. 2021-2022 Online Course Selection Students will be meeting with their advisors during advising periods and freshman PAY classes in order to begin discussing the courses they would like to take next year. The online registration portal will open in PowerSchool on Monday, Jan. 25, for students to make their course selections online. Information regarding the course selection process including deadlines and supplemental information was emailed to parents and is available on the MUHS website under Academic Courses. Freshman Fitness All freshmen should have chosen one of three options to complete their fitness requirement. Activity requirements began the week of Jan. 20. If students have questions, they should stop by the fitness center. Submissons for Student Literature Magazine due Feb. 8 Signatures is a literary magazine, published once each year, which contains quality prose, poetry, and visual art work representing freshman through senior classes. Students who would like to submit their written work or art work should do so by Monday, Feb. 8. There are three ways to submit: 1) deliver it in person to room 336, 2) email the work to signatures@muhs.edu, or 3) fill out this Google form and attach the work. Sophomore Wellness Day Feb. 10 The Counseling Department has planned Sophomore Wellness Day for Wednesday, Feb. 10. The freshmen, juniors, and seniors will have a virtual school day, while the sophomores will be in the school building for a variety of activities and presentations on physical, social, and emotional health. More information will follow including the full schedule and presentation topics, but for now please plan for sophomores to be in the building on Feb. 10. Alumni Service Corps Applications Being Accepted MUHS is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year for its Alumni Service Corps (ASC) Program, a volunteer program that allows individuals to live out a Jesuit commitment to service at MUHS. The program provides housing and stipends for food and incidentals, and is open to recent college graduates who have a background in Jesuit education (attended/graduated from a Jesuit high school or university). More information/Apply Volunteer Sign-up for Topper Auction Volunteers are still needed for Topper Auction being held on Saturday, April 24, 2021. This is our school's biggest and only fundraiser. It provides important funds for the needs of the school and supports our scholarship programs. Getting involved is easy. Just click on the volunteer link to see the ways in which you can help. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone. You pick the slots that you feel fit your talents, your interests, and/or your schedules. Important News from College Board (SAT) Just announced this week, SAT Subject exams and the optional essay (writing) portion of the SAT will be discontinued. Students in the Class of 2022 and beyond will no longer need to plan or schedule these test options offered by SAT. As this news was just released by the College Board to colleges and high schools this week, we are happy to share what we know at this time from the College Board press release. College Counseling Senior Parent Update Be sure to guide your senior to (and review with him) the weekly Student Bulletin as College Counseling posts a "Scholarship Shout Out" in almost every edition, sharing new/upcoming scholarship opportunities worth his research. Spring NACAC Virtual National College Fairs Coming Soon The National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC) will be hosting a series of virtual national college fairs over the coming months. NACAC Fairs typically have over 600 colleges in attendance for families to visit with/learn more about. The next NACAC virtual college fair will be held Sunday, Jan. 31, from noon - 6 p.m. CST.
