October 28, 2021 HILLTOPPER PARENT WEEKLY Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying this autumn weather!
Today and tomorrow we have our parent-teacher conferences. These meetings aim to strengthen the partnership between home and school to support your son's learning and growth. The faculty want to do all they can to assist your son accomplish his academic goals. Part of helping him succeed is teaching him to advocate for himself and seek help when necessary, Often students (particularly boys) do not feel comfortable seeking help or support and think of it as a sign of weakness or shortcoming. It is critical for our sons to learn to advocate for themselves not just for high school success, but as a tool that will aid them for the rest of their lives. We will continue to work with your son on this important life skill.
Learning to find balance between academics and co-curricular activities is an important skill as well. This autumn many students experienced the fullness of the MUHS community through their participation in different co-curriculars. Last weekend the seniors brought the MUHS spirit to life through their production of Follies - A School of Rock. Our co-curriculars continue to meet and this season's sports teams are participating in sectional or state competition in the coming days.
We encourage your son to get involved in school activities when possible this year, as participant or spectator. Information on co-curriculars and student activities is provided in the weekly parent e-newsletters and student bulletins. As always, we remain committed to optimizing your son's growth and achievement in and outside the classrooms.
Go Hilltoppers!

Online Registration Event Flyer We do appreciate your patience with the format adjustment this year and invite you to join us for a different but still lovely day of community and good cheer. The decision was made to alter the trip after reviewing the strict COVID restrictions in the city of Chicago, some safety concerns, the limited theatre schedule for the day, and noting that the holiday lights/Kris Kindle Market would not yet be up/open. We are hopeful that we will be able to return to the traditional downtown trip for next year. Students had the opportunity to learn how to find library materials using our online catalog called Destiny, participated in a scavenger, and learned about the history of libraries. This orientation is just one of many training sessions provided by the library staff throughout the school year. In addition to these formal sessions, the library staff are available throughout the school day to help your son find a great fiction book, recommend resources to complete assignments, and check out materials.
