| Dear Parents and Guardians, This week is National School Counseling Week. We are proud of the work of our counselors who are truly committed to the Jesuit ideal of cura personalis, the care for the whole person. They are always here to help students navigate different social and emotional issues to reach school success. | | | MUHS is dedicated to partnering with parents to help our students make healthy, safe and morally sound choices. Some recent research has shown a decline in the use of drugs and alcohol among adolescents. However, substance use remains a concern among parents, students, and educators. In last year's school climate survey, 21.8% of MUHS students reported alcohol use as a severe or moderate problem among their peers, 33.5% reported tobacco use (including vaping) as a severe or moderate problem, and 22.5% reported marijuana use as a severe or moderate problem. This week the MUHS Counseling Department offered a virtual webinar to freshmen and sophomore parents on Alcohol and Drug Information and the Implications on Adolescent Mental Health. We encourage all parents to watch the recording of the webinar when available next week and review MUHS policies and educational offerings that address this pressing issue. Next week the sophomores will participate in a Health and Wellness Day where they will learn more about the short and long-term damaging effects of drug and alcohol use among adolescents. We are grateful to the vast majority of students who are making the right choices and serve as strong examples to their peers. Thanks also to our parents for partnering with MUHS to help your sons make good decisions and our team of counselors for their dedicated care and work. AMDG, Mr. Monday Principal | | | UPDATE Alcohol and Drug Information Night Webinar: Implications on Adolescent Mental Health There were technical difficulties with accessing the Alcohol and Drug Information Night webinar, and the Counseling Department apologizes for any inconvenience. A recording of the webinar will be in next week's parent newsletter, as well as embedded in an email to parents and guardians of freshmen and sophomores. | Year-end Tuition Statement for 2021 If you are in need of a year-end tuition statement for 2021 tax filing purposes, you can view and print it from your Smart Tuition account.
