| Dear Parents and Guardians, In 2019 the Society of Jesus adopted four Universal Apostolic Preferences to guide the work of Jesuit schools, universities, parishes, and other ministries. One of these preferences is to accompany youth for a hope-filled future. This priority underscores the essence of an MUHS education, to form young men in reaching their potential so that in the future they may positively impact the world. |
|
| Today's young people are often seen as having a bleak outlook on life. This is understandable given the challenges and uncertainties of the last two years. Adolescents may be seen as losing hope due to some lost social experiences, uncertainty of relationships in a digital era, a widely reported rise in mental health issues, and persistent streams of negative news from the media. Based on a recent wellness check of MUHS students, collectively the opposite seems to be true. 87% of MUHS students agree or strongly agree that they are optimistic about their future success in life. (11% of students were neutral in their response.) They often see the future and their places in the world with eyes of hopefulness and optimism. The faculty aim to build caring relationships with your sons where their paths are based on solid spiritual, social, and intellectual foundations. MUHS stands by the commitment of the Jesuits to accompany your sons, helping them become the men they are intended to be. We appreciate the trust you place in the school and its educators to build a hope-filled future for your sons. AMDG, Mr. Jeff Monday Principal |

From the Dean's Office In recent weeks society has seen a growing trend nationwide of "swatting." This is when a prank call is made to a school or district that threatens school safety, such as a bomb threat. Recently, we have seen this occur here in Southeastern Wisconsin. As a school we take all threats very seriously, and we have a crisis and communication plan to respond to such events. We work closely with local law enforcement agencies. In the event of a threat, we would work with law enforcement to determine validity. If a school safety threat or incident were to occur, it is important that parents do not come to the school. Instead, we'd ask that you wait to receive further communication and instruction from school officials. Please remind your sons that these types of threats are very serious and criminal. We would also ask you to remind your son that if he sees or hears something that's related to school safety, that he should speak to a teacher or administrator. |

Technology Tips from the Academic Technology Team Have you ever wondered why your child is always taking pictures of himself? What is the big deal? SnapChat is a big deal. Many parents know from first-hand experience that their children are on their phones a lot. While it may seem they that they are addicted to their phone, they are really addicted to their friends. Granted, there are plenty of times that we need reminders that too much of anything is not healthy and that includes phones and any screen for that matter. A good balance is super important to maintain a healthy relationship either online or face-to-face. Take time to have screen-free dinner times, while driving - talk and encourage them to engage in a conversation with you. With that being said, it is a good thing to know what they are doing while on their devices. Here is a link to learn a bit more about SnapChat: https://bit.ly/MUHSsnapchat |

From College Counseling SENIOR PARENTS After College Admission Application Submission – It's Cura Application Time: Now that many seniors have and will continue to submit admission applications to colleges, please encourage your senior to watch for emails to arrive from his applied-to-colleges. These typically arrive within 1-3 business days of his application submission and offer directions on how to create an Applicant Status Portal. This portal provides a window into his application at that college and a checklist of required materials and their completion as they arrive at the Admissions Office. It can often take colleges 1-2 weeks to log in arriving documents especially around a college's application deadline date as they manage the large number of new documents they receive daily. The portal may also outline any next action steps needed. Here are a few tips from recent MUHS grads on college applicant portals: Keep a log of the website and your username/password for each of your college portals. Monitor your portals regularly. This is the main method colleges will communicate with students to share missing items, next step actions as well as admission decisions. Colleges hold students responsible for checking the portal and completing necessary steps. Confused with what the portal is sharing? Encourage your senior to bring in his laptop to College Counseling to share his portal and we can help him decipher.
Marquette University offering individual student meetings on Nov. 10 at MUHS: Ms. Rose Howard, the Marquette University admission counselor who works with MUHS, will be hosting individual 15-minute meetings for interested seniors on Thursday, Nov. 10, in the College Counseling Center. All seniors were emailed an invitation to sign-up and information is posted in the Student Bulletin. To sign up, students can email collegecounseling@muhs.edu sharing a free period(s) or stop in Room 119 to sign-up. While these meetings are optional, we encourage seniors to take advantage of this great opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation to get their questions answered and hear advice about admission and scholarships before MU's Dec. 1 priority application deadline. These meetings are purely conversational to guide MU exploration and application. College Financial Aid Tips Of The Week: Is the CSS Profile (or other additional forms) required by your student's college(s)? While the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form all colleges/universities use for need-based aid consideration, some colleges also require additional forms, the CSS Profile being the most common. Best advice: Research your student's college(s) websites to confirm which form(s) are required for financial aid consideration and their preferred/priority filing dates.
