Study Skills Boot Camp

UPDATE 8-5-20 - New times for Thursday Session

Morning Session: 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Afternoon Session: 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Please have your student bring a mask and bottle of water. If he is not planning to attend the in-person gathering, please email Chris Lese at lese@muhs.edu so that we have an accurate record of attendance.

There is a socially distanced in-person get together planned for Thursday morning/afternoon at Hart Park Chestnut Street Commons (just east of the football stadium). We have been notified of a gathering at 11 a.m. at the Hart Park Pavilion (across 70th Street from where we will be) by an organization called Indivisible Tosa. Information regarding this event can be found here: http://www.grassrootstosa.org/aug_6_know_your_rights_event

To help alleviate congestion in the Hart Park parking lots, we have changed the times of the get together so that our event does not overlap. We look forward to this in-person get together with the students. It has been a great week online but person-to-person interaction will be invaluable.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

UPDATE 7-28-20

We are moving forward with a plan for the Study Skills Boot Camp to be virtual from Monday, Aug. 3 - Wednesday, Aug. 5. On Thursday, Aug. 6, we will not have any online classes but rather have an in-person social get-together at Hart Park's Chestnut Street Commons for students to have socially distanced face-to-face connections with teachers and fellow students. In addition to the academics, the Boot Camp has traditionally been an excellent way for students to get to know one another. With the virtual classes, this time at Hart Park will allow students to safely interact with one another in person.

Pre-Boot Camp Student Reflection – Due July 31
Please have your student complete this brief reflection and submit it by Noon on Friday, July 31.

Computer Use
Your son will need to use a computer Monday - Wednesday during their session time. Please ensure that there is a reliable computer available for your son and that he has a quiet working environment to participate appropriately in the boot camp. A cell phone or tablet is not an acceptable device for boot camp.

Student Account Login
Your son will need to be able to log in to his Google account for Marquette High (which includes gmail, Google Drive, calendar, etc.). Every student is assigned a username and password. You received this login information at the top of his printed schedule for the 2020-21 school year that arrived with the back-to-school information that was mailed to families on July 15. The instructions to log in may be found here. Please contact our tech support team if you have any trouble logging into your account (414-933-7220). We suggest that you and your son try to log in before Monday.

Zoom
Zoom is a video conferencing application that the boot camp teachers will use every day. Zoom links will be emailed to you and your son at the end of this week.

Missing Class
If your son is going to miss a class for any reason, please email me at lese@muhs.edu. Attendance will be taken so it will be helpful to know if your son will not be there. (Please note, refunds will not be issued for missed days.)

We look forward to working with your son. Please contact Chris Lese if you have any questions.
