Money Matters: Personal Finance Fun!

For boys entering grades 6, 7, 8, and MUHS Grade 9

Despite being the world’s largest economy, Americans rank 14th in financial literacy, according to Standard & Poor’s Global Financial Literacy Survey. This camp is designed to introduce students to how money works as well as beginning to effectively manage their own personal finances. Students will explore and develop practical skills in banking and budgeting, understanding paychecks and managing credit to allow them to make informed decisions and begin developing a stable financial future. During the course, students will be introduced to a variety of real-life applications and scenarios through online activities and other fun learning opportunities to get them started on the path towards a lifetime of financial literacy.

Stock Markets & Investing: Course 1

For boys entering grades 6, 7, 8, and MUHS Grade 9

Gamestop! Bitcoin! & NFTs! Everywhere you look these days, stock markets and investing are all the rage. Want to start to learn about what it means to invest? This camp is designed to allow students to gain knowledge and skills in the areas of investment vocabulary and decision-making, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other financial instruments. Students will learn about and see how the Marquette University High School Ignatian Student Investment Fund is an example of prudent, long-term investing. In this interactive course, students will participate in a stock market simulation as well as other financial activities and games to enhance their learning experience.

Two sessions of the same class are being offered.

Stock Markets & Investing: Course 2

For boys entering grades 7, 8, and MUHS Grade 9

Prerequisite: 2021 Stock Markets & Investing Class (either session) OR 2022 Stock Markets & Investing Class (June 13-16)

This companion course will provide students the opportunity to do a deeper dive into the financial metrics surrounding investing. Students will learn more about differences in investing philosophies and begin to formulate their own opinions about useful metrics for picking successful investments. Students will be given a chance to research a company and be coached through how to put together an investment proposal, mirrored after that used by the Marquette University High School Ignatian Student Investment Fund.

Two sessions of the same class are being offered.
