Safety

The safety and well-being of students and employees are the highest priority at MUHS, and we work to instill a culture of care within the student body. Below are answers to questions about safety and our procedures.

What is the school doing to keep students safe?

We have comprehensive safety procedures in place, including secure entry protocols, safety presentations and staff training. These measures are reviewed and updated in consultation with local law enforcement and diocesan guidelines. Students attend safety meetings where they learn campus safety protocols and emergency response procedures.

A key component of our approach is the “See Something, Say Something” philosophy, which applies not only to suspicious activity on campus but also to concerning behavior or posts on social media. If students hear or see anything troubling, please immediately contact a teacher, administrator or reach our Security Team directly at (414) 937-8581.

For your reference, here are presentation slides that we share with students in assemblies.

How does the school work with law enforcement?

We maintain close partnerships with local police, fire and emergency personnel. They provide guidance, support, and training, and they are familiar with our campus layout and procedures in the event of an emergency.

We are also grateful for the work and leadership of our security team, led by former Milwaukee Police Department Captain Mike Dubis, in keeping our school community safe. Our security team consists of multiple former police officers with several years of experience.

What communication can parents expect in an emergency?

Parents will be notified through our emergency communication system (email, text and/or or phone, depending on the situation). We will provide timely, accurate updates while prioritizing the safety of students.

What counseling or emotional support is available for students?

Our school counselors, pastors, and support staff are available to help children process fear, anxiety, or grief. We provide resources for families and encourage open communication if a child is struggling.

What role does the Church and Catholic faith play in school safety?

Our Catholic mission reminds us that each child is created in the image of God and must be protected with dignity and care. We integrate prayer, pastoral support, and Gospel values into our response to safety concerns, helping children feel secure and supported spiritually as well as physically. We turn to Christ for peace, pray for healing, and stand together as a community of hope. By grounding ourselves in prayer and Catholic social teaching, we provide a strong foundation for resilience, compassion, and unity.
